Kunigami Village aims to be certified as a starry sky reserve

Have you ever seen the “Milky Way”?

It is said that it is now impossible to see the Milky Way in 70% of Japan.

“Starry Sky Sanctuary” is a certification given to initiatives such as measures and education to protect and preserve the natural night sky, free from the effects of light pollution, conducted by the American NPO “Dark Sky International.” It’s a system.

Certification requires efforts such as local outdoor lighting standards and local awareness activities.

The efforts of the Starry Sky Sanctuary will not only help protect the dark night sky, but will also help protect wildlife and reduce CO2 emissions.

Let’s protect Kunigami’s jet black sky so that future generations can also see the starry sky that our ancestors looked up at 10,000 years ago.
